Rune Johansen |
My name is Rune Johansen and I was born in Nannestad, Norway 1968. I've
got an older brother and we are as different as it can be! From I
was a little child I've always loved animals, and particularly dogs.
We had German Sheppard at home, but I was too young to remember. I
was always visiting different farms close to us to be with animals.
It didn't matter if it was cows, pigs, hens or whatever. Our neighbour and
my best friend, Tove, got an American Cocker spaniel when I was
11 years old, from Kennel Mitellas. One time I visited the kennel
together with her, and fell in love in a cocker spaniel named Molly
(Leavenworth Loveaway). It appeared that she needed a new home, and
after a little begging at Home, I finally got her. She was 4 years
old. The first 6 months, I got help from Brit (Kennel Mitella) to
trim her. But when she moved to Sweden (Alingsås), she asked her
friend Anne K. Lund to teach me how to trim Molly. So already at
11 years old, I stared to "trim" my cocker.... I loved this dog
more than anything, but sorry enough she only got to be 7 years old,
because she had cancer. In the meanwhile, Tove had got a new dog,
this time a Cocker
spaniel, Timanka's Altered Image from Kennel Timanka, and I went there
together with her and
met Anne - again. She had a Cocker spaniel that needed a new home,
and I got my second dog. It was Kavora Video, Tara (that is one of
the foundation bitches in my kennel today!). She had several litters
and in 3 litters only produced all males except 1 bitch! She is the
Mother of Timanka's Town Gossip who have fathered some litters. I
lost my Tara in Kennel Cough because of malpractice, and in 1989 o
bought my first Cocker Spaniel dog. Timanka's Paradise Lost, Fabian. He was
a lovely dog, but not a great showdog. But he is the father of Ch
Timanka's Flower Child (BIS-winner). In 1990 I bought another cocker
spaniel, Ch Timanka's Visit At Midnight (Becky) for showing and
breeding. Anne K Lund had a house in Klöfta where there had been a
shop in the ground floor, that was empty. I moved there and "rented"
the ground floor, and made a small apartment there. But in short
time Anne and I became a couple, and shared the whole house. Anne
thought her kennel name Timanka war so personal that she didn't want
me to be apart of it, so I applied for my own kennel name, and at
the 9th attempt, I finally got the name Birdlike. The funniest thing
is that my first choice for a kennel name was "Lordlike". The owner
of kennel Lordlike bought a Dalmatian bitch from me some years ago,
Timanka's Listen To your Heartbeat - that is the mother of my
P-litter. Gunilla also breed Cocker spaniels - what a coincidence! But when I had
mated Becky with Timanka's Grey Ghost, Anne had big problems with
that a cocker litter in another kennel name with two Timanka parents
should be born in her house, she wanted me to be a part of Kennel
Timanka. Timanka is put together of the name of Anne's first dog
Bamselia's Tim Fly, TIM and her name Anne KArin. Viola - TIMANKA. So
the first litter I was a breeder of was Timanka's K-litter that
produced Ch Timanka's Kick The Ghost, Cruella, which has been the
most important brood bitch we had. By this time I only was
interested in Cocker spaniels, but of course I became a breeder for
Dalmatians at the same time. Timanka's A-litter was the first
Dalmatian litter I bred. I fell in love with Ch Timanka's Almost
There, that later on moved to Kennel Of Dalbury's Clan, Femke van
Tilburg in Holland. I started to show Ch Timanka's Almighty and
later on Ch Timanka's Above All and became quite good at showing
Dalmatians. In my 3rd litter Multi Ch Timanka's Collectors Item and
Ch Timanka's Close Enough was born, and I was "sold". They made me
fall in love with Dalmatians. The first years we had a lot of
winnings with the Cockers, and we had several dogs/bitches winning
BOB and CAC's and even groups and BIS-placements. When we started to
show our Dalmatians from the C-litter, they started to win a lot. I
was so proud when I won BIS at the big Speciality Show for
Dalmatians in 1997 alone With Edda (T. Collectors Item)(Anne was at
a Spaniel Speciality show). I also won BIS-3 at the Kennel Club,
weeks before also with Edda. She was just 17 months old.
For those of you that knew Anne, know I had a tough learning and
practice period learning about cockers and Dalmatians!
At this time, Anne got sick in cancer. Of course it took a lot of
energy and time from us, but we continued breeding and showing. Then
next 4 years was very hard, but also full of joyful moments. In
year 2000 we only went to the big and special dog shows that was
important to us. One of Anne's last litter plans was to mate T. Close
Enough with Devlin, Multi Ch Jilloc's A Man In The Mirror. We tried,
but she was to late in her season. When Anne died in January 2001, I decided to make her whish come true, and went to Florence to use
Devlin. I got my K-litter with only a few puppies, but even if no
one have become special dogs for breeding, they have been quite
special to me. The first time after Anne died, I had 2 persons that
I could talk to any time of the day. I had Kari Ditlefsen, kennel
Perdita to talk to early in the morning and during the day, and
Florence in the evening and nights. I didn't get much sleep!
The same spring one of Anne and my best friends, Laila Dysjeland,
kennel Lajban with English Springer spaniels, also died only 39
years old. She had 18 Springer's at home, and I said I would like to
take care of one of them, and it had to be a male, because I didn't
want to be attempted to breed Springer's. I got Lajban's Fixed
Business. What more can I say than he made me fall in love in
English Springer spaniels as well. What a lovely dog and character.
I only showed him a few times as he didn't like showing that much.
In November I got a new job, but because of The September 11th, the
Airplane company had to let go 1/3 of their employees, I also got
fired before I started there. So without a job, I had all the time
in the world. So when Florence invited me to visit her for
Christmas, I took almost all my dogs with me, and then I stayed
there! Our history you can read about in another page.
